As a church family, we are excited to be involved in both cooperative missions work as well as mission endeavors directly from our church body.
Our cooperative program giving allows us to support mission work that goes on both here and abroad. Thus, we can touch the world from right here in Deville.
The
International Mission Board currently sends over 5,300 missionaries
throughout the world. Most of these missionaries can be found in
remote, desolate and often dangerous parts of the world where there is
little if any access to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through a variety
of ways and means our missionaries help to establish local, indigenous
churches that then take the responsibility for taking the gospel to the
rest of their community. The North American Mission Board sponsors
thousands of missionaries here in the U.S. and Canada. Much of their
focus is on planting churches in inner cities and in remote areas of
these countries focusing on people groups such as Spanish speaking,
Korean and other non English speaking groups. The last few years
have seen our own church body personally involve themselves in many
different mission experiences. Some are local such as work at the high
school and Hope House. Others are a little further out such as
hurricane recovery efforts in Louisiana and Texas. Recently we have
developed a relationship with Josiah and Bethany Children’s Home in
Reynosa, Mexico. Our work there ranges from construction and
maintenance on the facilities to sponsoring children and assisting in
the regular needs of the orphanage. Lastly, we are looking to adopt an
unreached people group in the country of Ecuador. More about this later.
All in all God is working mightily and we are blessed to be a part of taking the gospel to the ends of the earth.
UPDATE
Holding the Ropes for
Haitians in Hispaniola
In March you prayed for four pastors and a Director of Missions from Texas who would be leading a Haitian church leadership conference in Santiago from March 28 through April 3. A week before the conference we didn't know if anyone was coming, but the number in attendance has grown daily. On Tuesday we fed 128 people lunch at the conference. Because you ,things happened. Surprising things. We had a ladies meeting where the Haitian leaders all told how they each had similar illnesses, but had not been able to find medical help. Delores called a Dominican pastor who is also a doctor to see if he would come one day to see the ladies at the conference. “Accidentally?” she dialed a wrong number and started talking about the problem. To her total amazement, she had contacted a doctor right in her community near where the conference was being held. He said he would be glad to come do a complete physical on the women free of charge prior to the conference ending and they set up a date to do just that! The missionary and the doctor did not know each other. That same day one of the missionaries was traveling on a bus and discussing some of the problems Haitians have with the lady who “happened?’ to be sitting next to him. She is a lawyer and has offered to assist the pastors and leaders by giving information on how the Haitians can be in the Dominican Republic legally. We have been blessed to be able to give out 100 Haitian Creole Bibles to the pastors and leaders, leadership materials, Bible songs, and more so far. There is a hunger to know more and more. These pastors and leaders are eager to start a Haitian Baptist Association in the Dominican Republic ! God heard your prayers and he is responding in amazing ways! Thank you.

Partnership Missions Mobilization Network: CAST THE NET! (Luke 5:4)
The LBC Missions &
Ministries Dept. has created a Partnership Missions Network: Cast The Net,
for our churches and missions. We are excited to bring this opportunity
to further the Kingdom beyond the reach of individual churches, and to
transform our thinking; the opportunities are everywhere, all the time.
The
purpose is to expand the global missions? impact by broadening the awareness
of mission opportunities and by mobilizing the maximum number of volunteers
being involved in the Acts 1:8 challenge. Our goal is to maximize the
available resources for the furthering of the Gospel. You can be On
Mission anytime, you don?t have to wait for your church to do something; we
are one. Romans 12:5 "so in Christ we who are many form one
body, and each member belongs to all the others."
Cast The Net is a location for LBC churches
and organizations to post their project needs, and open spots on mission
trips. It is also for individuals & teams to search for those
opportunities.
A second vital part of our site
will be posting the results. We want to celebrate your successes &
post your photos & videos, and allow others to share in your progress. Revelation
19:7a "Let
us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!"
